Type review: Ori and the Will of the Wisps: What has changed from the first part?
This article is a subjective look and summarizing the results, games ORI and the Will of the WISP.
ORI and the Will of the WISP This is a game in the Platformer-Metro-Meding genre. The game was made by united efforts Moon Studios GMH, and Microsoft game unit, Xbox Game Studios. At the moment, after the release, the game has estimates in the area of 9 points on Metacritic and “very positive” reviews in Steam. The game is really so good? She was able to fix all the shortcomings of the first part and increase the best sides? Now I will try to answer these questions and share my impressions about Ori and the Will of the Wisp.
IN ORI and the Will of the WISP There are a lot of different innovations. Both gameplayed and conceptual, and graphic. Uneven only remained, this is music. Many compositions of the last game migrated almost unchanged, in the second part (except that they began to sound cleaner) and replenished with new compositions. Graphically, the game retained its visual style and charm (still made on Unity), but the picture itself received significant changes. Images have become much more detailed (instead of one texture of a tree of skills, there are 2 dozen unique textures of these trees).
This one texture of the tree from the first part was changed to almost 2 dozen unique trees in the second frequencyAnd
The rear background has become more diverse, now it not only reflects the visual of a certain location, but also shows the world hidden behind the two -dimensionality of the game. On the main background, new details also appeared, both gameplay and simply visual. Opponents became more rich in structure, the problem in the size of the enemy went away (in the first part, the main antagonist was an owl, but its micro-versions were in the game itself, like ordinary opponents, in the new part we will mostly always fight with insects, and there is no confusion in size). And probably graphic changes, this is the most minimal change in the game, compared to the first part.
Conceptually the game remains the same. We have an initial and ultimate goal, we have the keys scattered in the plot and levels, we have opponents who will interfere with us throughout the way. The concept itself remained the same, but the details have changed. For example, now we are studying the world with the company of characters that will help us during our journey. In addition to this, experience points now act as currency and change to strengthening skills and modifiers, etc.D. Adding side missions that will dilute the plot and help explore the world. Adding different tests (to speed and battle), which, after their passage, give different bonuses helping in the passage of the game. And a little innovations in the series of opponents. In addition to the expansion of the bestiaria, full -fledged bosses appeared. But it’s better to say about them in the gameplay plan.
The gameplay itself can be divided into two components, combat offers and interaction with the world. We will begin from the combat aspect. Remember the monotonous and boring jamming in the first part, which were called “fight”. Forget, now the battle in ORI is a fairly dynamic and interesting process, where during combat episodes, if not all skills (both combat and for movement) will be used at least most of them. Instead of a small light that caused opponents, we have a damage to: a sword, a sledgehammer, a bow, chakra, a throwing spear, fireballs, 2 ao attacks, a turret and ability to move along the entire plane.
On this wheel, not even all the skills that https://spinland.uk/ are in the game, there are only active skills. But even this wheel looks quite impressive.
Not a few, but what about the world itself and interaction with it? And here I must say that herself ORI and the Will of the WISP Very strongly looks like another game in the same genre, namely Hallow Knight. For example, in the game, in addition to standard klektobols (HP and energy), such as ores and fragments of the spirit appeared (modifiers of different skills and characteristics of the character). But if the ore – this can also be another item to improve something, then with the fragments it is immediately clear that they were inspired by work Team Cherry. And so you can say about many details of the game.
Perhaps I’m finding fault, but such an interface style and modifier feeds too much resemble a hollow knight
Here is a character who sells a card just on the location where you are, and if that, then you can buy it later in a local hub.
A previously indicated hub appeared, where the early characters and a merchant will be collected. But this is briefly about the world and its inspirers. It is also worth saying about the character’s skills. All skills from the past went into the new one, but either did not change or were changed. So, for example, the clatter became an additional attack for sledgehammer, climbing the walls, turned into a fragment, and a jerk up, now you can use in any direction.
In the last part, this skill had to be obtained from the tree of spirits, almost at the end of the game, in the current one, this is a fragment of skills that you get the very first
At the same time, such skills as a rebound from shells remained unchanged. But this is all about the inner part of the game.
And what is the plot? According to the plot, we find ourselves in a new forest, where the main conflict will spin around the owl of Ku (this is the daughter of the owl of the antagonist from the first part, which was adopted, Ori and his family) and assisting local residents. This is briefly about the plot. Also almost forgot the bosses. The bosses themselves are one of the best moments made in the game. Almost every boss will expect you to the stage of the chase that will set you up in the right way. The battle itself will usually take place in the 2nd or more stage. In addition to changes in the boss muvsset, the arena and the conditions on it will change. At the same time, the battle with each will be felt quite serious testing even at an average level of complexity (and what awaits you on Hard, mmmm).
It was such monstrous, in relation to the main character, creatures that were not enough in the last part. Each of them is an amazing point for the completion of each chapter..
Well, now you can talk about the problems of the game itself. And even though they are not so very much, but they still have. And the main thing is of course the very repetition of the game, in relation to the first part. Maybe I only had a problem, but playing in ORI and the Will of the WISP I did not stop thinking that I play the same game, only more. Perhaps this is not so minus, the game still became more and more diverse than the first part. But remember what emotions gave you Ori and the Blind Forest. What ambiguous topics she raised. What emotional was the end, which gave himself the right to an ellipsis at the end, rather than a solid point. But so in the new part the same topics are raised, the same path is traveled, both plot and visually, and the end puts the end, although a well -deserved, but still point in the history of Ori, but we hope that not this world. You can also register not always convenient management (played, both on the keyboard and on the gamepad).Weak disclosure of the character ku gimplaino. There are meager bugs with objects on ropes, such as spiders and lanterns. And that’s all, at least for me.
The result would be like to say that the game after passing, although it does not leave negative emotions. Nevertheless, knowing what the predecessor was, you expect more from the game in terms of the plot, and not the repetition of the minimum scenario changes passed in the first part. Can I advise the game? Yes, sure. This is still a beautiful and dynamic platformer that can like many. Even if you haven’t passed before Ori and the Blind Forest, Although you will not get some nostalgic emotions. Well, at the end of the review, you usually need to write an assessment. And although I am not a fan to put any grades, but ORI and the Will of the WISP I set it “boasted” (well, or 8.7). This is the opinion of a simple player who wanted to share him with everyone. Thank you all for your attention.
