What’s the Process of DMV License Plate Renewal?

How are License Plates Made

Every time you need to renew license plates, some rules are needed to follow as per the government policy. Before planning to drive your vehicle, you have to complete all the required documents. Your vehicle must be titled and registered at DMV-selected offices, customer service centers, or mobile offices.

In case you are a new resident or bought a leased vehicle, you definitely need to go through additional data collection to register a car. An annual safety inspection is another excellent option that you need to pass. Besides, you need to have a valid safety inspection sticker as well.

Keep in mind that if your sticker is missing, law enforcement may tag a ticket. Failure in following rules and laws can lead you to pay a fine that will be pasted to your driving record.

For Leased Vehicles/Dealer Purchased Vehicles

If you have bought a vehicle from the dealer who is dealing with further processing, keep in mind that it may take around 30 days to complete the process, and your vehicle may get registered in the DMV record. The leased vehicle will not appear in the DMV record.

On the other hand, if you don’t plan to drive your vehicle this year, you will have to follow additional rules. However, if you want to store the vehicle somewhere but don’t want to move it, you have to apply for Planned Non-Operation online. PNO filing fee will be charged to you.
