What do You Need to Get License Plates?

Driving a vehicle on the roads publically needs you to register it. Each state has different policies to register a vehicle with its reserved departments. So right after buying a car, the first thing you have to do is registering it with your state’s motor vehicles agency (MVA).

For this, you most probably need car insurance proof, the vehicle’s title, the driver’s license, and other documentation. Plus, you have to pay the registration fee and display your plates on the car. It entirely depends on whether you are applying for the registration for the first time or renewing the registration.

Consider focusing on MVA’s policies and rules for your vehicle.

Ensure Plates’ Validity

In California and other states, you have to renew the registration of your vehicle yearly. Once your registration is renewed successfully, you will get stickers for the whole year. You can paste the stickers on the plates that show the validity of your license plates.

Usually, license plates stay with the vehicle once they are issued. However, some customized plates, special recognition, or special interest plates may reassign to another vehicle at the request of its owner.

License Plates

Getting license plates for the vehicle needs you to register them. Do you know thirty-one states need two plates for one vehicle?

Yes, one plate is placed on the front side and one for the rear of the vehicle. On the other hand, nineteen states need you to place just one plate on the rearview.

The vehicle identification number printed on the dashboard and your permit must be the same. In case of mismatching, you need to go through further procedures. The following documents are needed:

Using Current Plates

You are free to use license plates with your vehicle where ever you move. However, for this, you have to provide the plate ownership of the vehicle while registering the vehicle.

On the other hand, if your vehicle is old for more than 20 years, you may need an appraisal. Again, the Ministry of Finance can help you further in this regard.

In any case, if you want to drive a vehicle but don’t want to register it, you have to get a 10-day special permit. Driving a car without a permit is not safe at all. Beware of breaching rules as it can put you in danger.
